KAMISHIBAI Storytelling Competition
KAMISHIBAI is a traditional Japanese form of storytelling that uses illustrated picture cards to bring stories to life. The storyteller performs by using expressive voice acting to portray different characters, while guiding the narrative with carefully timed card transitions. To enhance the storytelling experience, performers may also dress as one of the characters, creating a more immersive and interactive presentation.
In this competition, participants will create a KAMISHIBAI video (under 10 minutes) based on the abridged version of the story 「雨の日」provided. Participants must use self-drawn picture cards, incorporate the traditional card-pulling technique for transitions, and perform a voice-over narration of the story.
Each participant is required to submit the following three components:
Story script (PDF) – Full script up to the ending
Picture cards (JPEG) – All illustrated cards used in the performance
Presentation video (MP4) – Final video performance of the KAMISHIBAI
