COMPETITION FORM

SUGOROKU Language e-Board Game Design Competition

This competition invites creative minds to design an engaging e-board game that encourages Japanese language learning through play. Participants will develop an interactive SUGOROKU-style game that not only reinforces understanding of Japanese but also promotes teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Theme for This Year: 「助詞(じょし)」– Japanese Particles

Japanese particles are essential grammatical tools that connect and give meaning to words in a sentence. This year’s challenge is to create a game that helps learners at the elementary or basic level understand how Japanese particles work.

Game Design Guidelines:

  1. Select Your Particles

Choose a set of particles your team would like to focus on—such as those used for time, place, similar functions, or commonly confused particles.

  2. Choose a Theme and Topic

Create a context or storyline that showcases the chosen particles effectively (e.g., daily life, school, travel).

  3. Prepare Language Content

Design a variety of questions or quizzes related to the particles. Brainstorm relevant vocabulary and prepare visuals (e.g., illustrations, photos) to support understanding.

  4. Set the Game Rules

Define how the game will be played. Ensure there’s a good balance of rewards and penalties to maintain excitement and fairness.

  5. Design with SCRATCH

Use the SCRATCH application to create your game board, tokens, dice, and any additional game elements such as reward or penalty cards.
