JLfest 2024
Objective
The competition aims at enhancing written communication skills among Japanese language learners through photos and captions as well as the joy of making stories from words.
Theme: VEGETABLES 野菜
Vegetables are an important part of our daily diet.
The mere sight of some vegetables (be it on our plate, in the fridge, at the supermarket, in the garden, or even left lying on the road) could sometimes evoke powerful emotions and memories within us.

I like edamame because it is healthy and tastes nice. We used to grow it in our garden. I always try to hunt for a edamame with 4 pods, which is rare. Just like the 4-petal clover, if you found one, you are really lucky!

I equate daikon as a white canvas because it colors itself with the flavors of the dishes it is cooked in. For example, the daikon simmered in a tom yam oden soup (offered by one of the mini market chains) absorbs the spiciness of the soup while providing a hearty much of its flesh.

Those who are away from home would miss their mother's cooking. They have to either cook themselves or eat out. Mother's cooking is engraved in our heart since we are young. As we grow older, the chances to taste our mother's cooking lessen. We should appreciate every dish they cook.

I love spring onions in my soup. They bring a bright, fresh kick waking up the whole bowl. It's amazing how something small like the spring onion can make a big difference. From the classic chicken soup to the spicy ramen, these little green rings scatter their magic, making every spoonful better. A soup without them, would feel incomplete. It's like a day without sunshine!
