COMMENTS FROM THE JUDGES

"Impromptu speaking involves not only ideas but also their delivery. It requires skills ranging from speed thinking, creativity, and a certain degree of language proficiency to good communication strategy and time management. Hence, the contestants in this competition must be commended for their effort in balancing these skills. And the 7-minute time frame is indeed a time bomb! Hat-offs to all contestants and congratulations to the winners. みなさん、よくがんばりました。

The main takeaway for all contestants is perhaps NOT to be overly focused on notetaking as it does eat up most of the allocated time."

  EDWARD LEE

"Speaking is always a major weak point for many Japanese language learners. The competition itself is very interesting. Other than motivating students to improve their Japanese language proficiency in order to speak confidently, especially when presenting an impromptu speech, it is also a perfect tool to help train and develop students' ability in creativity. I would like to see JLfest continues to offer the 4KOMA-shibai competition for the coming years."

  NG KAR PEK

"4KOMAshibai is a very interesting and creative way of entrance into impromptu speech in Japanese language. Hope that in the future more students will take the chance to participate in this competition."
