Workshop Description

Jan Vincent S. Ong is a collector, seller and recently a designer of Japanese rectangular cloth called the tenugui. The tenugui is a versatile cloth that is used for picnic wrap, home decor, fashion, and as a souvenir.

As an advocate of this craft, his talk aims to elevate this traditional medium to a global stage by highlighting its ability to preserve local heritage and transcend to more present day designs.

As a designer, this talk will share his first hand account in creating a tenugui with Osaka company Nakani Dyeing Factory. He hopes the talk will inspire artists to rethink the stories they tell and how to best make use of their own medium.
